![]() All they really did was crop out the story mode intro scene to make the rather gross first event implied instead of directly shown and alter the color of Filia's panties in her sprites/art to black to create a sort of void effect. But taking the time to make those adjustments means that they probably intend to keep supporting the game further after Marie drops.įilia's changes in regards to sexualization are minor and not sufficient in my humble opinion. I always figured that these sorts of changes where they distance themselves from elements added by the game's original team would come if they ever decided to make a sequel. I'll be honest, as a longtime Skullgirls fan I never thought Skullgirls would get these changes, given how long they lasted even after the new dev team. CHARACTER SEXUALIZATION & AGENCYWhile Skullgirls is no stranger to characters that confidently express their sexuality, there are instances in the game where characters are fetishized and/or have sexualization imposed upon them. This is a holistic pass that applies to in-game frames, concept art, story mode art, and more. More impressive than Double's, in my modest opinion.Īlso if I had to order the vanilla characters: Cerebella -> -> Fillia -> Painwheel -> Peacock.ALLUSIONS TO REAL-WORLD HATE GROUPSWhile the Renoir family and the Black Egrets were always intended to evoke imagery from an oppressive militant regime, we felt that the way that manifested (most notably via red armbands, flags, and symbolism) was too close for comfort - especially given the unfortunate reality that some of these hate groups are still active in various respects to this day.Īs such, you will notice that Egret soldiers no longer feature armbands and that the heraldry of the Black Egrets organization has also been adjusted. You can try doing Eliza's story (second) to last. The antagonists are fun to play last though. Newer DLCs also have older DLC characters to fight against.Īll starting non-DLC characters -> Valentine -> Squigly -> Big Band -> ♥♥♥♥♥♥ I guess? -> Eliza -> Beowulf -> Double ![]() The newer DLCs seem to take more references. The DLC characters seem to always have at least one other Skullgirl (or major character, at the very least) intertwined with their plot.Īlso an important thing to note is the DLC release order. They have no (or at least very little) connection to other characters. With that in mind, I'd highly suggest doing the Vanilla stories first. ![]() There seems to be no "cannon" Story in Skullgirls, and each Story has no real connection to each-other. They're technically the end tales (more-so Double's tale), but they don't really have any tie-ins to the actual story. Double's Story is unlocked by completeing Valentine's Story. Valentine's Story is unlocked by completeing all (non-DLC ) stories but Valentine and Double.
